Boost your vitamin D and health with a visit to the Algarve

Visitors are attracted to the Algarve for many reasons. The glorious weather is certainly one of them. Boasting more than 3,000 hours of sunshine annually, the sun shines even in winter for an average of 6 hours each day.

Mediterranean diet promotes a longer and healthier Life

Holidays are often seen as a time for indulgence and the Algarve offers visitors the best of both worlds; you can enjoy delicious local produce and try speciality dishes, yet much of the food served in this region is rich in nutrients and beneficial to health. Portugal may not have a Mediterranean coastline, but the traditional fare is similar to that of the Mediterranean diet popular in Spain, Italy and Greece.

Continuing its protest against the introduction of the A22 tolls, the Algarve’s Left Bloc is taking to the N125 on 25th July to highlight the many “black spots” and to stress the need for urgent improvements, if the N125 is ever to be a viable toll-free alternative to the A22.

The Aljezur Sweet Potato Festival: worth a visit

Each autumn, Aljezur celebrates the sweet potato and its importance to the community by holding a Festival.

The 2011 event ran from Thursday to Sunday, from midday to midnight, except on the Sunday, when it closed at 9 pm. It takes place in the Espaço Multiusos, a vast, one hundred metre long metal shed set among steep wooded hills with views across the valley to the old town and castle.

Found in Spain; lost in translation

On a recent trip to Seville, I was idly leafing through the hotel chain magazine. I suppose the idea of these publications is to draw the reader in with articles of general interest, and to hit them with advertorials promoting new destinations, refurbishments and so on. Aiming to appeal to the international traveller, the articles appear both in the local language and in English. As befits a publication reflecting luxury values, considerable care is taken over the photography, typography and layout, even the quality of paper stock used.
