Spring Walks in the Algarvian Countryside
Walks in the Parque Natural de SW Alentejo e Costa Vicentina (PNSACV) this spring
Spring is always a fantastic time to be out and about in the Algarvian countryside, but, with the epic rains that we have had this winter, the stunning landscape of the Costa Vincentina and S W Alentejo has rarely looked more beautiful than it does right now. The rains have produced a burgeoning growth and flourishing variety of wild flowers and grasses. There are many wonderful walks and cycle routes taking you through the changing landscape from lush meadows to sandy beaches and rugged headlands.
The beauty of the coastline within the Natural Park is a sight not to be missed. I have some favourite walks for May and June and would particularly recommend:-
Zambujeira do Mar
Less than an hour’s drive up the N120 from the South Coast and into the S W Alentejo is , is Zambujeira do Mar , a traditional coastal village with a sandy beach hugged by dramatic cliffs. There are several cafes and restaurants clustered at the top of the hill overlooking the bay – a perfect spot for lunch. The coastal walk southwards from Zambujeira do Mar to Odeceixe takes you along a dramatic and largely deserted coastline on one side, and a rustic panorama abundant with wildlife and wild flowers on the other. The walk takes between 2 and 3 hours at a strong pace. If you prefer not to walk back, there is a bus service, or alternatively it is possible to walk half-way and to return by a slightly inland route.
Castelejo
Closer to home is the beach at Castelejo near Vila do Bispo. There are several walks here of differing lengths. Inland there is a clearly marked family walk of approximately 1 hour, winding partly through woodland. As in many areas of the Natural Park, there are information boards concerning the indigenous fauna and flora. The walk along the beach itself takes you past rugged cliff formations displaying millions of years of geological movement. You can also take a circular walk from here to Cordoama beach and back inland through the countryside.
AlmaVerde offers guided walks as well as mountain bike hire, and can provide a number oroute maps. For further information, please contact Kathy on 282 697957.

Hi
The Zambugeira de Mar walk sounds a good walk, and bus back seems best choice then the bar!!
We are over in July and as said trying to get over with some people for a long weekend in Sept.
