BACKGROUND
As a nurse working in the area of high dependency, I saw how important bowel care and bowel management were to these patients, many of whom were unable to go to the toilet naturally. Becoming involved in colon hydrotherapy was a natural progression and one of the best things I have ever done. After having treatments myself, I wanted to know more and so went to a great event in Scotland which included a cleansing programme and colon therapy treatments. I saw immediately that the ‘Open’ Colonic systems are not ideal, as not everyone is comfortable doing the insertion of the tube themselves. I actually had treatments with a number of systems, and made my decision on which system and equipment to use based on comfort, efficiency, and hygiene. Dignity and privacy are paramount and setting high standards was a priority.
After a number of years in practice, I am still amazed to see how colonics can transform lives. Some people think that the colonics story started when Princess Diana let it be known that she had undergone treatments, but colonic treatments have a long history, and fill a far more precious role in health promotion than is generally accepted. Due to fantastic modern-day pioneers and associations such as RICTAT, perceptions are now changing quickly. For more information see www.rictat.org & www.colon-therapy.org
