Bowen Technique
In Bowen Technique, the practitioner uses thumbs or fingers to make a series of precisely located, rolling-type moves over muscles. The treatment is interspersed with short breaks to allow your body to respond to the gentle moves that have been performed. This rest period is an essential part of the treatment, giving your body time to make the subtle and fine adjustments, which help to re- balance, relieve tension and reduce pain.
A consultation is first carried out so that the therapist can gain an understanding of your condition. Thereafter each session lasts between 45 minutes to an hour. The therapist will ensure that you are comfortable and relaxed. For your comfort you will be invited to undress to your underwear, and you will be covered with a sheet or towels. Although it is possible to perform Bowen through light clothing, direct skin contact it sometimes more effective. This type of treatment is essentially holistic, meaning that the therapist treats the whole body rather than necessarily specific presentations. Thus, treatments differ from individual to individual and often from session to session.
